Rhipsalis are a group of cactus that have developed to survive in forests, many grow in trees hanging from their branches like ferns. Most varieties flower in spring with white or cream flowers, some are orange and pink. After flowering many produce berries in the Summer and Autumn months.

Rhipsalis are well suited to outdoor growing in almost all parts of Australia although areas that do not experience cool winters may not be able to flower the plants well. Rhipsalis prefer shade levels of about 50%, less then 30% will cause leaves to redden and grow smaller and more than 75% may retard flowering.
